Rabat — This evening will mark a new fierce game between two giants, South Africa and Ghana, as part of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The match will take place at 5 p.m. Moroccan time at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda.

While many fans have the opportunity to watch the game live, others can enjoy the show via broadcasters, including beIN Sports.

Defending champions South Africa are eager to repeat the same experience as in 2022 to clinch another trophy.

But several giants, including Ghana, are eager to show they are also able to make positive surprises, especially as they are returning to the showpiece for the first time since they hosted the WAFCON in 2018.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the ongoing edition in Morocco presents the “perfect opportunity to start afresh while building on their past successes.”

Ghana’s women’s team, also known as the Black Queens, reached the final in 2006, but has struggled to strengthen its position in the competition since then.

“They failed to make it past the group stages on four occasions, in 2008, 2010,  2014, and in 2018 at home,” CAF reported.

But the same source emphasized how the current generation of players is eager to embrace the opportunity of this year’s edition and make the most of it.

As for South Africa, Banyana Banyana are determined to protect their legacy after the 2-1 final game against Morocco in 2022 to clinch the title.

“We are here like any other team. Every team that comes here wants to win. A lot has changed in the last three years since we won,” South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis said, noting that this edition is a new tournament.

“Teams have evolved. You cannot underestimate any team,” Ellis said, noting that the South Africa squad is a contender like any other team.

Many predict South Africa to do its utmost to defend its champion title during the game, but Ghana is not a team to underestimate, especially as they see this edition as a chance to make up for the other missed opportunities.
